Replace a Kitchen Faucet
Swap a dated or leaky faucet for a modern pull-down in an afternoon. One of the highest-impact kitchen upgrades for under $200.
Shut off water and disconnect supply lines
Close both shutoff valves under the sink. Place a bucket underneath. Unscrew hot and cold supply lines from the faucet shanks.
Remove the old faucet
Unscrew the mounting nuts holding the faucet to the sink. A basin wrench is almost required here โ regular wrenches can't reach behind the sink.
Clean the sink deck
Scrub off old plumbers putty, caulk, or mineral deposits with a scraper and sponge. A clean surface prevents the new faucet from sitting crooked.
Mount the new faucet
Thread the supply lines through the sink hole, drop the faucet in, and tighten the mounting hardware from below. Most modern faucets use a simple threaded nut or bracket.
Connect supply lines
Hand-tighten hot and cold supply lines to the corresponding shutoff valves, then quarter-turn with a wrench. Don't overtighten โ you'll crack the fittings.
Turn on and check for leaks
Open shutoffs slowly. Run hot and cold at full pressure. Dry the connections with a paper towel and check every 10 minutes for an hour.
