Remove doors, drawers, and hardware
Number every door and hinge with masking tape on the inside so they go back in the same spot.
Clean and degrease
Wipe every surface with TSP or a degreaser. Kitchen grease under old paint causes peeling.
Sand lightly
Use 220-grit sandpaper or a sanding sponge to scuff up the existing finish. Wipe clean.
Prime
Use a bonding primer like Zinsser BIN or Stix. Two thin coats.
Paint with cabinet-grade paint
Benjamin Moore Advance, Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane, or similar. Two coats with 24-hour dry between.
Rehang and reinstall
Let paint cure at least 48 hours before rehanging doors. Cure fully before heavy use — 2 weeks for durability.
