Install a Smart Thermostat

Turn off power at the breaker
Find the breaker labeled "furnace" or "HVAC" and flip it off.
Remove the old thermostat
Pull off the faceplate, then unscrew the backplate. Photograph the wiring before disconnecting.
Check for a C-wire
Most smart thermostats need a "common" wire. If you don't have one, use the included adapter or contact the manufacturer for help.
Mount the new backplate
Thread wires through and screw to the wall. Use the included level if your wall isn't perfectly flat.
Wire to the new thermostat
Match each wire to the labeled terminal (R, W, Y, G, C) following your photo and the new thermostat's diagram.
Snap on and set up
Restore power and follow the on-screen setup. Connect to Wi-Fi and your phone app.
