Clean Refrigerator Condenser Coils

⏱️20 min💰$0–15🟢Beginner4.8 (178 reviews)

Dusty coils make the fridge work twice as hard. A 20-minute clean once a year lowers your electric bill and extends compressor life.

Unplug the fridge

Pull it forward enough to reach the plug and disconnect.

Find the coils

Most modern fridges have them underneath behind a kick plate. Older models have coils on the back. Pop the kick plate off — usually clipped, sometimes screwed.

Vacuum the dust

Use a vacuum with a brush attachment or a dedicated coil brush. Go slow and catch dust in the vacuum nozzle as you sweep it out.

Brush and vacuum fan

If there's a condenser fan visible, brush dust off the blades and vacuum out the compartment.

Clean the grille and reassemble

Wipe the kick plate, snap it back on, push the fridge back in place, plug in.
