Clean Your Outdoor AC Coils

Shut off power
Turn off the disconnect box on the wall next to the outdoor unit, and shut off AC at the thermostat.
Remove debris
Pull grass, leaves, and cottonwood fluff off the fins with your hands or a soft brush.
Spray with coil cleaner
Apply a foaming AC coil cleaner to the fins from the inside out. Let it sit 10 minutes.
Rinse gently
Use a garden hose on a low setting (not a pressure washer — that bends fins). Spray from inside out.
Straighten bent fins
If fins are bent, a fin comb ($8) will straighten them and restore airflow.
