Install a Dimmer Switch
Instantly upgrade any room. Works with LED if the dimmer is rated for it. Same wiring as a regular switch, different feel.
Buy an LED-compatible dimmer
If any bulb on the circuit is LED, get an LED-rated dimmer (Lutron Caseta or similar). Regular dimmers will make LEDs flicker, buzz, or burn out early.
Turn off the breaker and verify
Flip the breaker and confirm dead with a voltage tester on the switch.
Photograph the wiring
Take a clear photo of the existing switch wiring before disconnecting anything. 3-way dimmer installations have more wires — the photo is essential.
Disconnect and reconnect per the dimmer instructions
Each brand wires slightly differently. Most single-pole dimmers use a hot in, hot out, and a ground. Match wire colors per the included diagram.
Mount and test
Screw the dimmer to the box, attach the cover plate, restore power, and test at full brightness and minimum. If bulbs flicker, confirm they're dimmable.
